About Sean Campbell

Sean with Pillows

Since he was five years old and dreamed of one day being the president of the United States, Sean Campbell has possessed a great deal of ambition.

Sean began applying this ambition “in the real world” at the ripe age of fifteen, when he, inspired by the legendary television producer Norman Lear, decided to write a book about how Lear’s 1970s sitcoms positively influenced American culture and future television. After Sean persevered through over seventy rejection letters from literary agents, McFarland & Company, Inc., a leading publisher in scholarly, reference and academic books, published Sean’s book in 2006, when Sean was seventeen years old. The Sitcoms of Norman Lear currently sits on university library shelves worldwide, and is used as text material in college courses.

Sean attends the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College in New York City on a full four-year scholarship, and will be a graduate of the Class of 2011. In April 2009, Sean earned two awards at the Houston International Film Festival for television and movie scripts he has written.

However, for years, Sean has faced various obstacles while pursuing his goals. Since early adolescence, Sean has coped with depression and anxiety. In addition, Sean was raised by an alcoholic father with bipolar disorder, whose actions led to severe emotional, legal and financial ramifications that destabilized Sean’s home life during his teenage years.

Despite the adversity, Sean was able to maintain intense focus throughout his life and handcraft his own unique and independent path to success.

Sean speaks professionally throughout America, telling his personal story, promoting mental health awareness, reducing the stigma associated with mental illness, and providing people with strategies to maintain positive mental hygiene. Sean’s work began in his home state of New Jersey and is expanding across America and beyond. Sean is a recipient of the 2010 New Jersey Governor’s Council on Mental Health Stigma Ambassador Award in the category of Individual and Families, based on his speaking endeavors in the state of New Jersey.

Sean enjoys challenging himself and continues to be ambitious, balancing his various endeavors. And who knows? Perhaps one day he will be President. If there is one thing Sean does not believe in, that is limitations.
